How change made me feel confident

I first felt confident when I decided to dye my hair. Two long hours of cutting, bleaching, and “tinfoiling” resulted in this beautiful burgundy ombré over the bottom half of my hair. One brush of purple felt oddly refreshing. That cool breeze that tickled my shoulders once the blow dryer turned off felt like popping open a fresh can of chilled Coca-Cola. This sugary carbonated energy rushed through upon my reflection. The burgundy looked like a pop of life on to this black and white monotone.  My big blue and black glasses complimented my ombré like your next four-eyed punk rock chick. A posh style only I could own, an inner satisfaction like no other. This unprecedented venture at first felt a little uncomfortable to jump into. Now it was my first risk to be proud of. Thus, the biggest experiment of my life had officially started: The evolution of me. Who am I meant to be? A question that won’t be answered so soon. Yet, walking out of those doors and taking non stop Snapchat selfies made that distant answer feel okay. In fact, isn’t that the fun of it all? To just keep upgrading with no immediate clear meaning.  As a person who values logic, it didn’t initially make sense to do things just to feel good. And even now, can be hard to accept. But, I go back to that liberation I felt playing with my soft purple hair that day. The ability to let loose and dance with change was just as satisfying as being planned and prepared. This I discovered was confidence.
