Five Ways to Spice Up Your Living Space Amidst a Boring Pandemic

As a college student, limited social interaction with an above average commitment to my computer had really made my semester quite dull. However, upon watching endless youtube videos of room tours, I decided that enhancing my apartment would help add a little excitement to my daily blues. I found this to be quite helpful in adding some coziness to a stressful environment. Here are five tips I found super helpful to feeling more relaxed in my living space that may be of interest:

  1. Flowers/Plants(I know as if we have’t heard this enough): I really realized the importance of adding a little life into my apartment as days started to get shorter and colder with Michigan winters. Adding this Ficus Tree, surprisingly, not only boosted my mood but also increased my productivity levels! I highly recommend this specific plant or a money tree in terms of low maintenance with weekly water and sunlight requirements.

2. Wallpaper: And no I don’t mean basic pink polka dots. I encourage you to play around with designs-find a vibe that suits you. Personally, I’ve always been a fan of rustic designs. Thus, I decided to go for a wood design and place this geometric bookshelf in front to achieve that.

3. Painting Furniture: If you have an old piece of furniture that seems a bit out of touch, you don’t necessarily need to throw it away. I had a table here that I spray painted silver to match with my rustic wooden wallpaper. It’s a lot cheaper than buying something new.

4. Futons?: This is an idea that recently came to mind with my windowsill. If you have a windowsill, adding some futons is a great way to add color and create comfy space for a breather. Note: I haven’t actually bought futons yet, but this is certainly an idea anyone can play around with.

5. Lighting: Get as creative as you want! During my high school years I picked up a bunch of random decor throughout my travels and this happened to come into use when I came to college. These squishy Cony lights from Line Friends make a cracking open a bottle of wine a little more bubbly.
